What to wear in Spring: 6 steps to sculpting a superior spring wardrobe

Spring is the perfect time for mixing and matching winter with summer items. Below are six tips that I thought were most important to creating the best spring wardrobe. The main goal is creating a capsule wardrobe which can easily transition between seasons and occasions.

Spring might look like the time to bask in the sun, but the weather can be unpredictable (especially in the UK) and even if the sun is out, there could still be chance for snow! Don’t ditch the knit just yet, it could come in handy for if it gets cold. Try wearing it in different ways, like layering it over a thinner top. How about that wintery skirt – how does it look without the tights or heavy coat?

2. Say hello to summer clothes-

With Spring here, that can only mean Summer is around the corner. Dig out your most summery outfits. What can mix and match with other clothing items more appropriate for Spring-time weather? I love to see a flowing maxi skirt with a chunky knit, the perfect mix of winter and summer clothing.

3. Layers, layers, layers-

If you’ve seen my social media or read previous blog posts, you’ll understand my obsession with layering clothes. Layers are perfect for this time of year when the weather is a little more unpredictable. Layers are what will bring the previous two points together. Show-off your summer wardrobe with some winter layers for the perfect spring look. Using layers between seasons will really optimise every piece of clothing you own year-round.

4. Add a little personality-

This is also the time to start playing with a bit of colour. Take inspiration from nature; what colours do you see? What is your favourite flower/tree/veg etc. Right now, I have to say mine is white cherry blossom and lots of hearty green leaves. A perfect colour combo too!

5. Post lockdown-

What kind of outfits do you want to be wearing coming out of lockdown?

Don’t forget the new golden rule…. Its ok to be seen in the same outfit twice… shocker! If this new rule nerves you a bit, then take 6 pieces of clothing out of your wardrobe and see how many different looks you can create out of them, you could be surprised.

6. Spring clean your wardrobe-

Spring is known for being the time to clean and declutter.

Sort through your wardrobe. Has every piece been worn? Do they fit you well? Do they bring you joy? If not, then why are you holding onto them? Can you rework them to fit or do you know someone who would appreciate wearing your old items?
