What makes a summer wardrobe classic?

Want something new to wear during the summer season? Want the garments to be breathable and free? Want to know what pieces are best to buy? Read on to find out about summer wardrobe must haves and the best fabric choices.

To create a wardrobe full of summer classics that can be used year round, you first need to understand the groundwork of what a staple item is. Once this is understood, you can start having fun by injecting personality into your looks. The blog post is only going to investigate three of the classic pieces and it is up to you to decide what to pair them with.

Slip dresses are a classic item which can create a series of outfits and transition from cool to hot climates. This should be a must-have piece for anyone’s wardrobe. It is great for the summer season as it is loose fitting and breathable. Does it feel a little chillier today? No worries just layer the dress up with a cute white tee or a trendy denim jacket and you are good to go. The slip dress can easily be worn for the cooler seasons with a few simple layers. By pairing a turtleneck with the slip dress, there is an added layer of texture and warmth. Wear the turtleneck over the slip dress to make it look like a skirt. Add flats to any of the looks for a casual outfit, boots for an edgier personality or heels for cocktails with the girls. This one piece is so diverse!

Another classic piece to add to your wardrobe is the basic t-shirt or shirt alternative. Yes, this section is covering two pieces, but they are both so easy to dress up or down or even piece together. So many looks can be thought up from these two basic designs. They would even work perfectly layered with the slip dress. They also carry the same trait as the slip dress, where each piece would even work for hot and cold weathers.

The third staple piece to consider is a pair of shorts. Now this piece is a little more complicated to decipher as it all depends on the style you personally prefer or what best suits your body shape. The best suggestion is to consider a paper bag, cargo, or box style short. This is because they will be so much comfier than the denim short, whilst also being more breathable and lightweight. The style is not figure hugging making them a great design for most body shapes.

When considering a purchase of any of these staple pieces, make sure to choose items which are manufactured with breathable fabrics such as a cotton or linen. Another material which is great for hot weather is silk. Unfortunately, silk is not environmentally friendly. Luckily, in the next blog post I will be coving silk and cotton alternatives for a summer wardrobe!

Now you know what the staple items are, what fabrics to consider and how to layer, a little personality can be added. This can be achieved through jewellery and accessories. By keeping the summer pieces neutral colours such as black, white, grey etc. colour or pattern can be added through the accessories. You could add a bright green belt to the slip dress or an oversized bumbag to a buttoned up shirt dress. You could even be as bold to have a chunky patterned necklace with matching earrings, belt, and bag! Still make considerate purchases with accessories by really figuring out what YOUR personality is rather than fully trusting a short lived trend.
